Set in Paleolithic Europe, 80,000 years ago, the plot of the film surrounds the struggle for control of fire by early humans.

When the Ulam tribe loses its carefully guarded fire, several members of the tribe go on a quest to find more.  After being captured by the cannibal Kzamm tribe, they manage to escape with Gaw, a member of the Ivaka tribe. Gaw knows how to make fire.

Note: The dialogue in this film is not in English or French - a special primitive language was created specifically for this film by Anthony Burgess.
